About Kybella

Just a small amount of extra fat in the upper throat area may produce the presence of a "double chin" that is unwanted to both women and men. The additional pockets of fat beneath the chin (aka the submental area) can be caused by genetics, weight fluctuations, or aging that lead to a softer jawline and chin for a less defined profile. Our Hurst and Weatherford, TX providers are pleased to offer this revolutionary method to eliminate neck fat at SkinMD. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kybella is a new nonsurgical, fat reduction injection for upper neck fat. The active component in Kybella is a manmade version of deoxycholic acid (DA), which works similarly to the body's natural DA to dissolve and absorb fat cells. After it's injected below the chin, you can see a visible decrease in the volume of fat. Once the fat has liquefied, the cells do not reform, so you can enjoy your new, slimmer neck and clear jawline for years to come.

Ideal Candidates

The ideal candidates for Kybella treatments have additional fat in the upper throat (submental area), which creates unwanted fullness or a double chin. This injection addresses resistant sections of fat that can't be minimized with usual weight loss techniques due to genetics, aging, and several other conditions. If you are at or near a healthy, stable weight, but exercise and diet have not worked to remove the fat in your neck, Kybella may be the correct intervention for your needs. While Kybella may treat small or medium pockets of fat in the upper neck, larger pockets of fat may be better suited for more invasive procedures.

Procedure Technique

Kybella is completed during an appointment in one of our treatment rooms. Your injector will typically apply a numbing cream to the treated area, if preferred, once the skin is cleansed. The injections last around 15 minutes, which comprises of multiple small injections into the upper neck area. Patients may need a single treatment to achieve their desired goal, while other patients may require several injections spaced three weeks between each appointment at SkinMD.

What to Expect

Kybella treatments do not need general anesthesia, so you can leave our office when you are ready to return to your usual routine. You may experience short-term swelling, numbness, or bruising beneath your chin; however, this shouldn't last more than 2 – 3 days. Contact SkinMD right away if you are feeling any unusual symptoms, like difficulty swallowing, facial muscle weakness, or if your facial expressions are uneven. While the fat that is eliminated do not regenerate, the cells that remain can get larger, so you must keep a stable weight after your Kybella treatments to keep new pockets of fat from developing. Ideal results after this procedure leave your neck appearing tighter and slimmer and your neckline will be better defined.
